Anna Achmatowa

Anna Akhmatova (1889–1966), born Anna Gorenko near Odesa, was a Russian poet. At the age of 17, she adopted the surname of her Tatar grandmother. She published her first poetry collection, Evening, in 1912; her notable works include Poem Without a Hero, published in 1960.
