Alois Prinz (born 1958) is a German author of biographical nonfiction. He studied literary studies and philosophy in Munich and has written biographies of, among others, Hermann Hesse, Ulrike Meinhof, Franz Kafka, Hannah Arendt, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and the Apostle Paul. His biography of Hannah Arendt, “Hannah Arendt oder Die Liebe zur Welt,” received the Evangelischer Buchpreis, while his biography of Ulrike Meinhof won the German Youth Literature Prize. In 2017, Prinz received the Grand Prize of the German Academy for Children’s and Young Adult Literature; in 2023, he received the Special Prize of the German Youth Literature Prize for his complete works. The Arendt biography sold more than 130,000 copies.
