Alice Schwarzer

Alice Schwarzer (born 1942 in Wuppertal) is a journalist, essayist, and author. After completing a traineeship at the Düsseldorfer Nachrichten, she began her journalistic career in 1969 as a reporter for the magazine Pardon and worked as a political correspondent in Paris from 1969 to 1974. In 1977, she founded the magazine EMMA and became its publisher. Her many books include The Small Difference and Its Big Consequences (1975), biographies of Petra Kelly and Gert Bastian, Marion Dönhoff, and Romy Schneider, as well as Lebenslauf (2011) and Lebenswerk (2020). Her social and journalistic engagement has been recognized with, among other honors, the Ludwig Börne Prize, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and France’s Legion of Honour.
