Alfredo Bryce Echenique

Alfredo Bryce Echenique was born in 1939 in Lima to a Peruvian-English family. The Peruvian writer studied law and literature at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos from 1957; he qualified as a lawyer in 1963 and completed his literary studies the following year with a thesis on Hemingway. From 1964, he continued his education at the Sorbonne in Paris and later taught at French universities, including those in Nanterre and Montpellier. He also worked as a journalist. His first novel, Un mundo para Julius (1970), was translated into ten languages. Bryce Echenique published around twenty books, including novels, short stories, autobiographical works, and collections of articles. In 2002, he received the Premio Grinzane Cavour and Spain’s Planeta Prize.
