Alfred Bodenheimer (born 1965 in Basel) received a traditional Jewish education and studied German and history. In 1993, he earned a doctorate with a dissertation on Else Lasker-Schüler’s emigration to Palestine. After conducting research and teaching at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Bar-Ilan University, the University of Lucerne and the University of Geneva, he became Professor of Jewish Literature and Religious History at the University of Basel in 2003. He has published numerous scholarly works on Jewish literature and intellectual history, including “Ahasver, Moses und die Authentizität der jüdischen Moderne.” He has also written several crime novels featuring Rabbi Klein, including “Kains Opfer” and “Das Ende vom Lied.”
