Alexander Hartung was born in Mannheim in 1970 and studied economics at the universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg. He subsequently worked for management consultancies in Berlin and Frankfurt before moving into the software industry. He began writing during his studies and turned to crime fiction. He became known in particular for the Jan Tommen series and the thrillers featuring Munich investigator Nik Pohl. He also created the Hamburg police officer Alina Grimm and published the historical crime novel *Der Fluch des Fremden*. According to publisher information, more than one million copies of his books had been sold by summer 2019.
