Albertine Sarrazin

Albertine Sarrazin (1937–1967) was a French writer. Born in Algiers, she grew up as an adopted child in France and later spent several years in reformatories and prison. During her imprisonment, she worked on her novels, including *L’Astragale*, *Der Ausbruch* and *Querwege*. *L’Astragale* brought her sudden fame in 1964, and Simone de Beauvoir supported the publication of her work. Sarrazin died at the age of 29 following kidney surgery.
