Albert von Schirnding (born in Regensburg in 1935) is a writer, poet, novelist, essayist and literary critic. He studied classical philology and German at the universities of Munich and Tübingen, worked as a teacher at a Munich secondary school and contributed to the Süddeutsche Zeitung. From 1991 to 2004, he headed the literature department of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. He joined the academy in 1983 and the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz in 2001. His publications include Alphabet meines Lebens (2000), Nach dem Erwachen (2003), Übergabe (2005) and Menschwerdung (2005).
