After all her back-and-forth in the previous book, America finally makes her choice—Maxon. While it’s satisfying to see her commit, it’s hard to ignore how she strung Aspen along for two entire books, essentially keeping him as a backup plan in case things with Maxon didn’t work out. The rebels continue to be more irritating than meaningful, and the whole “slutty dress” scene felt random and unnecessary. I did appreciate Celeste’s sudden change of heart, but realistically, one conversation doesn’t erase years of behavior, so the shift felt rushed. And then she gets shot—one of the most shocking moments in the book—and afterward, it’s like the story just moves on with barely a mention of her. For such a big character, it felt strangely abrupt. And Aspen—after being in love with America forever—barely puts up a fight once she chooses Maxon. For a love triangle stretched across multiple books, his reaction felt surprisingly flat.

Unpopular opinion time: I think the series is highly overrated.
All three books could easily have been reduced to one: There was too much unnessecary drama, too much sitting around the womens room without anything to do, WAY to much "Aspen or Maxon I just can't make up my mind" and WAY WAY too much "He loves me! NO he doesn't, oh he does", when Maxon pretty much says in book one that she's the one. Just make up your mind America, for gods sake. America was way too whiny for my opinion. There were moments when she shone, like when her dad died and she let Kota have it. But those moments seemed to come from nowhere and were gone instantly.
I felt there could have been much more competition between the girls, much more tasks to prove themselves, there was so much potential that just didn't get used. Also I didn't buy into Maxons and Americas love in the end. Their relationship began well in The Selection but then all the drama happened and America exploded at every little thing without being reasonable once. It was just so annoying.
The thing with the rebels was interesting too, but also here: So much potential that got resolved in an instant in the end.
There were some parts I enjoyed. I liked how the girls got to know each other better and the politics with the other countries were interesting. However it wasn't enough.
I am definitely not gonna continue this series.

Like the second part, this could've been much better than it actually was. I am really glad that America finally figured out, who she wants to be with and I also think that it is great that the system finally will get changed. But the way it ends, feels like the author didn't know how to make it work without doing something drastic, like killing everybody off. I did enjoy reading this book, but I wasn't hooked or anything by it and I also enjoyed it, when I was finally finished and could put it aside
