I was so exited to read this book and during the first 100 pages it was great and I saw lots of potential. After that unfortunately the plot took a very unexpected turn and everything got worse. At first the protagonist Sophia seems to be this brave and wild young woman who wants to change the world. She is unhappy and her feelings towards the kingdom are absolutely relatable. After the turning point at page 100 she becomes very naive and takes on a plan she could acutally never accomplish, but of course Sophia is brave and if you have a goal you can conquer anything. Now, that's some bullshit. It's a nice touch, but made the story all the more unrealistic. The love interest seems very distant to me. I knew what drives her and that Sophia obviously has string feelings towards her, but that's acutally it. I just couln't connect with her and didn't understand her need to be so egoistical all the time. The other characters were painted in black or white. Either you r are a good person or you aren't. This is far from the reality and made the characters seem flat. The plot was so predictable it's almost funny. There was one tiny plottwist at the end, but it's a stretch to call it even that. Everything happens exactly as you would expect and I knew the "secret" they hoped to find out from page 65. Sophia almost never has to oversome an obstacle by herself, learns how to fight in a day and nobody actually stands in her way wherever she wants to go. Enter the castle as a fugitive - no problem, there are no guards that would see her or recognize her, no. There aren't much guards on her route anyway even though the city is supposedly packed with them. The only good things about this book were the writing and the take of the author on LGBTQ+ relationships. I wouldn't recommend this book and don't understand why everybody seems to love it so much.
Oh my that was actually really good. How many unexpected thing do you want to happen... Yes
Characters: 0.5 Plot & Worldbuilding: 0.5 Writing: 1 Read again: / Overall feeling: / Fast paced and without logic at some points. The plot and worldbuilding could have been so much better. The protagonist was silly, short-sighted and exhausting to read. I liked the last plottwist at the end. A story with lots of missed potential.
the end was RUSHED, still good tho
