Reviewed by Kathrin What did I just read? Did I read anything at all? I feel like nothing happened. Wait! Let me explain: Have you ever read a book and felt like the beginning could have been it's own separate book so that the story could be more elaborated? This is this book. We follow the six main characters through the labyrinth that is the Alexandrian society to unravel how they can score a place in said society. If you are a plot driven reader, this is not the book for you. Even I, who fairly enjoys character heavy books, got confused. Mainly because I felt like the pov's of each character was useless as they all had a similar tone and felt more like an omniscient narrator than truly distinctive character pov's. Why do I think that? Because we mainly get to know important developments of each character through the eyes of an other character. Even each characters feelings are assumed by other characters rather than the reader experiencing these feelings first hand through the respective character pov. Same thing goes for the characters relationships. The story takes place over the span of a whole year but most often relationship devolvement takes place off screen. (Which was very confusing for me ... ) But the style of narration that annoyed me the most was the authors choice of using flashbacks over and over and over again to continue the story. One moment Libby and Nico are discussing something the next Libby is in the drawing room discussing something with Tristan, then we suddenly get back to Libby and Nico in the present. And this is basically the whole plot of the book. If you read it you know what I mean by that. The characters were the most entertaining thing. Even though I thought they were basic stereotypes, they are well rounded and have a lot of potential for conflict. At the end I liked them all, except for Reina, she is just annoying imo. But that's maybe because I have a problem dealing with emotionless characters.Parisas chapters were definitely my favourite chapters alongside with Tristan and Libby. Overall I enjoyed reading The Atlas Six even though I was somewhat confused at times.
