Reviewed by Caroll-AnnI received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, which I really appreciate. I’ve read a few books by Freida McFadden before and usually enjoy her writing, but this one didn’t quite meet my expectations. Some parts felt a bit over the top, for example, her working in a high-security prison yet being left alone with inmates as just a nurse seemed unrealistic to me. Still, the story was decent overall. It was a quick read, and I don’t regret picking it up, but it just wasn’t as strong as I had hoped. Also, some of the characters really got on my nerves, especially Brooke. I can’t quite explain why, but she just annoyed me.

Reviewed by Franziska Wie soll ich anfangen? Ich habe das Buch gerne gelesen und war auch gut unterhalten. Allerdings war ich vor allem gegen Ende sehr genervt von dem ganzen Hin und Her. War es Tim? War er es nicht? War es doch Shane? War er es nicht? Den letztendlichen Plottwist habe ich zwar nicht kommen sehen, aber so ganz stimmig hat er sich irgendwie auch nicht angefüllt. Einige Sachen haben mich auch zwischendurch einfach gestört, wie zum Beispiel, dass Brooke Shane einfach nach zehn Jahren Gefängnis wieder zu sich aufnimmt, obwohl sie diejenige war, die ihn ins Gefängnis gebracht hat. Dass sie sich nicht wundert, dass er ihr nicht böse ist, warum verzeiht ihr einfach so? Außerdem finde ich die Obsession, die Tim mit Brooke hat etwas schwierig. Mir ist schon klar dass es für den Plot auf jeden Fall Sinn ergeben hat den Charakter so zu konstruieren aber trotzdem etwas komisch. Ich hatte auf jeden Fall Spaß beim Lesen, habe aber definitiv schon bessere Thriller gelesen und komme zu dem Schluss, dass ein unerwarteter Plottwist zwar immer interessant ist, sich in diesem Fall aber etwas gezwungen angefühlt hat. Dafür hat mich der Epilog noch positiv überrascht, und so gehe ich mit einem „guten Gefühl“ aus diesem Buch. Ich würde auch definitiv weitere Bücher von Freida McFadden lesen, aber weiß mittlerweile auch einfach was ich von ihr erwarten kann. also ein nettes Buch für zwischendurch aber nichts weltbewegendes. Kann man auf jeden Fall lesen, man sollte halt einfach nicht zu viel erwarten.
