Reviewed by NayeliThe narrator of this books remembers a friend of his childhood to whom he suddenly stop talking due to an horrible incident. Cletus's father killed a man that was having a romance with his mom. Due to that the kid started avoiding friends and neighbors. After their friendship broke, only once the narrator saw Cletus. He was 15th and failed to talk to his friend, we wanted to show compassion, and tell him that he's story was safe, that he was not judging, but he kept quite. And many years later still feels guilty about that to the point that he had to go through the circumstances that lead to that death. This is how we learned the story of the narrator's family (who's name is never known) and Cletus Smith's families. Both families broken, both kids lonely. Ironically this is not a coming of age story is a story about marriage and family and a lot of insights about life and feelings but very focused about the adults around these 2 kids, actually sometimes they are forgotten.
