I'm completely blown away by this. "My Brilliant Friend" by Elena Ferrante is the story of two girls, Elena and Lila, and their friendship that is like no other. This novel follows them throughout their childhood and adolescence, growing up on the outskirts of Naples in the 1950s, where they form a truly deep connection. However, their relationship is very codependent and they constantly seem to need each others validation, while also always being in competition with each other. Another important topic in the novel is poverty, as Elena and Lila live in a neighborhood with a lower socioeconomic status. It shows their struggle with not having a lot of money and how strongly it affects their lives and the choices that they have to make. There are so many characters in this book; you get to know their entire neighborhood, but every single one of them feels so raw and real and you feel like you actually know them. The whole story feels all-consuming and I could not put it down. The ending really has me hooked and I cannot wait to pick up the next book in this quartett.

Zwei Mädchen, die versuchen herauszufinden, wer sie sind und was sie vom Leben erwarten können - eine ganz besondere Freundschaft. 🥰
