Detective Inspector Clare Mackay works in and around the beautiful coastal town of St Andrews. This is the second case we get to follow along with the DI and this time a baby is abducted. The investigator and her team don’t have much time to find baby Abigail because the little one has a heart defect and needs her medication urgently. . I already loved the first book because Clare is such a relatable character- flaws and all. She has a small dog- which is always a big bonus point for me. Marion Todd’s description of the investigation is always thorough but never overladen with too much detail. Her characters have a way of seeming to speak to me directly from the page- their dialogue isn’t forced like it sometimes seems to happen in crime novels. I love that about her books. The case was complex and I kept on guessing who the culprit was, until the end. Just like it’s supposed to be. I’m looking forward to book 3!
