I’m sorry to say, but this might have been the worst travel book that I’ve ever read and I’ve read a LOT of travel books. While I found the motivation behind this book exhilarating and could not wait to get into it and follow the author across the globe on her 80 train journeys - the execution of this travel report was more than disappointing. It lacks background information and often there isn’t much written about the actual places the author and her travel companion visited. Oftentimes the different trains and places visited seems like a mere checking off of a list and a negative recalling of unpleasant encounters with fellow travelers rather than an exploration into the cultures of the countries visited and the trains and people encountered. If you’re looking to be inspired to travel the world by train, you should probably look for a different book.
