Does It Hurt?

By H. D. Carlton

Format:Hardcover

Who am I?I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.Could I be a girl who is searching for the meaning of life in faceless men? They were all so forgettable. Until he came along. He took me under a waterfall and made me forget my name, and in return, I took his instead.Enzo Vitale. An enigmatic man that will only ever love the deep sea. Or rather the predators that inhabit it. Turns out, he's not so different than the monsters he feeds. He lured me onto his boat like a fish in the ocean, seeking vengeance for my crime. Had I realized his intentions, and that a massive storm would leave us shipwrecked, I would've run. Now, I'm a girl who's seeking refuge in a decrepit lighthouse with a man who loathes me almost as much as he craves me. He wants to hurt me, but the old caretaker of the abandoned island may have intentions far more sinister. It's no longer a question of who I am, but rather, will I survive?

i absolutely loved this book!! i honestly could’ve read the entire thing in one sitting because it had me hooked from beginning to end. enzo and sawyer were both such interesting characters, especially sawyer. she felt so different from the usual fmcs i read about, which i really enjoyed. i loved their chemistry, the romance, and obviously the spice but my favorite part was definitely the whole storyline and atmosphere. the lighthouse/island setting was SO good, and i loved that it actually got creepy at times. the mystery completely pulled me in, and i loved watching everything slowly come together and finally make sense in the end. it was just such a different story from what i usually read. honestly, i don’t really have anything negative to say about this one. the pacing worked perfectly for me, i was invested the entire time, and the story felt so unique. but then again… i expected nothing less from h.d. carlton. definitely recommend!!

I loved her storyline. Her reasoning. Her personality. And I loved how he accepted her. Loved her.

this has got to be some social experiment or parody. my expectations were low, but Jesus, I had no idea I would be this disappointed and appalled. this story followed no rules, was incredibly repetitive, the characters were appalling and had no development and for the love of God, would it hurt a dark romance book to get back to consensually beating someone up? with safe words and real trust? this was a badly constructed erotic thriller/body horror and for once I don't feel bad when I say I should not have finished reading it, it was a waste of time.
