the prince was so annoying and pathetic... 😅 but I enjoyed the rest very much and can't wait to read the next book

Einer jungen Prinzessin, die aus ihrer majestätischen Erstarrung erwachen muss. Und die eines jungen Prinzen, der seinen Gehorsam überdenken muss. Eine coming-of-age Geschichte voller Wucht, ein Aufruf zur Revolution. Ein Stabhieb gegen die Ungerechtigkeit. Manchmal klingt mir die Protagonistin Seli zu weinerlich, nervt mit ihrer Unsicherheit. Dann wieder bin ich absolut beeindruckt von der Stärke, die die Figuren füreinander aufbringen. Kapitel 76 ist unfassbar großartig für feministische Leser*innen! Lest das Buch, rise against oppression und bildet Banden ❤️

Update: Upon more careful consideration, the book did not deserve four stars... I read many four stars over the last few weeks and thinking back this book definitely fell below four stars for me. I am currently between 2.5 and 3 stars when I think about it. The world building just wasn't enough and the love story makes me angrier every time I think about it. So currently a 3 for me. And if I continue on with the series, I'll read them as ebooks as they would only take up space in my bookshelf. ________________________________________________________ Original review: The beginning of this book was great, the middle part not at all that great and the ending quite good. Initially, I was thinking of giving this book a three star rating because of several reasons: - the story is nothing new; the characters, the story, the plot twists and the romance have been here before in many other fantasy worlds (and some parts have definitely been executed better in other books) - the book is very fast paced and not always in a good way; I think it might only be personal preference, but I honestly prefer a waffly writing style to a book where I cannot connect enough with the characters. I did not even care if they are being killed off, go through a mental breakdown or go on a mission to safe the magic of Orisha. This book just felt too rushed. I get that this is an adventure story but still... - I really REALLY did not like Inan and I was really pissed when he and Zélie developed this instant "love of my life" relationship However, I still think that this book deserves four stars. The relationship between Zélie and her family as well as Zelie and Amari felt very honest and I could really see the bond between the two girls developing. I also very much appreciate the author's intention of creating a diverse fantasy world. I would recommend Children of Blood and Bone to anyone who wants to read a nice and different fantasy book with a lot of action and magic happening. I will probably continue on with the series – maybe the second book will help me connect more with the protagonists.
