Following the death of Gyula and the destruction of Esther's home church in Istavan, Abel, Tres and Esther travel to the Vatican to meet with the rest of AX. Their journey is fraught with complications, including a formidable vampire, a bloodsucking tree, and a dangerously beautiful mermaid.
