Rezension von Verenaabsolutely love the world of the White Rat, and it was so nice to return to. The worldbuilding, the humor, the banter and especially the characters are just so much fun. I really loved Caliban and Slate. Their dynamic was probably my favorite part of the book. Also the other characters Brenner, Edmund and Grimehug. I would love to go on adventures with them 😭❤️ I loved seeing all the characters again and getting more of their little interactions. Somehow T. Kingfisher has created a world where I genuinely care about even the side characters, and I just want to spend more time with all of them. 😂 It took me a while to finish because I was in a reading slump and 400 pages felt like a damn mountain. But once I picked it up again, I remembered why I love this world so much. Funny, charming, a little dark, full of heart, and with some absolutely wonderful banter. I just love this weird little world and its people. Aaand please can someone get me my very own paladin 🥹🥲 -> “Prayer is for the one who prays. It would be a monstrous arrogance to think that my prayers might sway the heart of a god.” -> “Cities are often lonely places,” said Caliban. -> “We’re living with decisions made by people so long dead we can’t even piss on their bones.” -> “I’m a paladin,” he said mildly. “Does a sword get angry when it is set aside, and then refuse to be drawn again?”
