Rezension von Madi It’s giving male gaze, vermutlich bewusst eingesetzt, aber trotzdem irgendwie unangenehm. Auch das vermutlich bewusst. Hervorragend geschrieben allerdings.
Rezension von lynn luana“Virgin Suicides” von Jeffrey Eugenides hat mich auf eine seltsame Art berührt, aber auch etwas unzufrieden zurückgelassen. Die Schwestern sind unglaublich gut dargestellt, jede hat ihre eigene Persönlichkeit, und trotzdem bleiben sie als Gruppe so mysteriös und unerreichbar. Dieses Konzept, dass die Jungs aus der Nachbarschaft alle fasziniert von ihnen sind, obwohl sie sie eigentlich gar nicht kennen, fand ich total spannend und glaubwürdig. Was mir allerdings gefehlt hat, war mehr Tiefe. Viele Themen wie Isolation und Jugend werden angeschnitten, aber nichts wird wirklich vertieft. Und dann dieses Motiv mit der Jungfrau Maria, ich konnte bis zum Schluss nicht nachvollziehen, wie das in die Geschichte passt. Vielleicht war es als Symbol gedacht, aber für mich hat es einfach keinen richtigen Zusammenhang ergeben. Die Atmosphäre im Buch ist allerdings großartig. Es ist melancholisch, drückend und voller Sehnsucht, und das hat mich wirklich gefesselt. Wer ein Buch lesen möchte, das eher durch Stimmung und Andeutungen wirkt, dem könnte es gefallen. Aber es lässt viele Fragen offen, darauf sollte man sich einstellen.
