Rezension von PeanutIn "The Tartar Steppe" erzählt Buzzati die Geschichte eines Soldaten, der sein ganzes Leben mit Warten verschwendet. Durch die eindrucksvollen Beschreibungen der Landschaft und der Festung kann man sich alles wunderbar vorstellen und versinkt in der Geschichte. Die Gefühle der Soldaten sind gut nachvollziehbar, und immer wieder spürt man sowohl ihre Hoffnung als auch die Sinnlosigkeit ihres Wartens. Teilweise lässt Buzzati viel Raum für eigene Interpretationen, aber das zentrale Thema zieht sich klar durch das gesamte Buch. Durch immer wieder größere Sprünge in der Zeit wird auch deutlich, wie schnell die Zeit vergeht, ohne dass sich etwas ändert. Auf eine fast schon unheimliche Weise hat man Mitleid mit der Sinnlosigkeit und der Hoffnung der Soldaten. Für mich ist es eines der schönsten Bücher, die ich bisher gelesen habe. Das Buch schafft es, dass man total in die Geschichte eintaucht und sich Gedanken über das Leben macht. Ein schönes Werk mit tieferem Sinn und wirklich lesenswert.
