She's the only woman he wants . . . and the only one he can't have. Asher Donovan is a living legend - the darling of the Premier League, the (arguably) greatest footballer in the world. But his reckless antics and recent team transfer have caused much controversy, and when his feud with his rival-turned-teammate costs them a championship, they're forced to 'bond' during off-season cross-training. Surviving the summer shouldn't be hard . . . until Asher meets their new trainer. She's beautiful, talented, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't take his mind off her. The only problem? She's his rival's sister - and completely off limits. *** Scarlett DuBois is a former prima ballerina whose career was cut short by a tragic accident. Now a teacher at a prestigious dance academy but still haunted by the ghosts of her past, the last thing she wants is to spend the summer cross-training Asher Donovan, of all people. She swore she would never date a footballer, but when her brother leaves town for an emergency, she finds herself thrown into dangerously close proximity with the gorgeous, charming striker. Training, she can deal with. But falling in love? That's out of the question - especially when he's the only person with the power to break her heart. 📖 The Striker by Ana Huang ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Honestly, I was really excited when I received an ARC of the deluxe edition of The Striker. I don’t think I had ever read an Ana Huang book before, so I was curious to see what all the hype was about. The combination of football, a forbidden romance, and the whole bad-boy-meets-good-girl dynamic sounded right up my alley. I really enjoyed Asher and Scarlet together. Their chemistry was probably my favorite part of the book, and I liked seeing their relationship develop despite the complications surrounding them. I also appreciated that the story touched on some more serious topics and gave the characters a little more to deal with than just their romance. That being said, I think I expected a little more depth, especially considering how long the book is. For me, it still felt relatively simple for such a lengthy sports romance. I also went into this expecting more of a slow burn, particularly because of the “forbidden” aspect of their relationship. Unfortunately, their romance developed much faster than I would have liked. And speaking of the forbidden romance… I’m not sure I would actually call it that. The main issue was more that Scarlet’s brother would absolutely hate the idea of her being with Asher, rather than there being something that genuinely made their relationship impossible. Because of that, I never really got the tension or the forbidden feeling I was hoping for. Overall, I enjoyed reading The Striker and definitely liked Asher and Scarlet’s chemistry, but I think the premise set my expectations a little too high. It had all the ingredients for a romance I could have absolutely loved, but some of them just weren’t developed enough for me. That’s why I’m landing at 3 stars. I wouldn’t say the book made me immediately want to pick up the rest of the series. Maybe I’ll get around to the other books someday, but for now, I’m not exactly rushing to continue. for that right now.

I really enjoyed the story! It wasn’t my favorite Ana Huang book and I felt like it was a little too dragged out at times, but overall, it was such a fun and enjoyable read. The characters, the romance, and the storyline kept me hooked!
