All in all I loved this book and the writing style. I still thought about only giving 3 stars, just because the whole plot and the things the story was based on seemed a bit random and confusing to me. Also, I initially bought this to read a cute sapphic romance with a little suspense that in the end turned out to just not really exist. Still, the suspense got me after being halfway through and I couldn’t put it down towards the end. A great book and a chefs kiss writing style (!!!!), just not the focus on Alice’s and Lottie’s relationship that I was expecting. (Why did they have to be so suspicious of each other like the WHOLE book?!?!) 4/5 ⭐️
In general I really enjoyed reading this. At first I was skeptical because I didn’t really know what to expect and needed some time getting into the story and perspective switches - but! I loved the whole vibe ~ dark academy, rainy Scotland, somehow enemies to lovers-, roommate-, wlw trope, mystery, supernatural and also underlying everything: critique on women’s role in society in the past and what it means for the present… Nevertheless I was left with some not so unimportant questions, that probably are subjective in importance, but all over wouldn’t have hurt to clarify or even mention them once more, mostly towards the end. Throughout the first half of 2/3 of the book I felt like Salems role will be much more important for the solution, but he was just never mentioned again until once on the last few pages where in the end Salem was just an immortal cat. That’s it? What about the resurrection? The red eyes? All together I found myself reading the second half of the book in one sitting, because I didn’t want and just couldn’t put it down, until I knew what’s happening in Carvell. Definitely would read again
Roommates that dislike esch other, sleepwalking, rituals, anger, two completely different girls that start warming up to each other. It was just the perfect setting and i loved the supernatural elements.
