Like the first book, the book reads well and fluently, the language is good and not too difficult to understand. I quite liked the first book for the first volume of the story, I think I also gave it a relatively good rating. The plot itself is not bad, but I have the feeling that some important information is missing. The worldbuilding was unfortunately still neglected. It was already not very detailed in the first book, but in the second book it was even less accurate. The world in which the story takes place is somehow very different from our present day or the typical high fantasy world. On the one hand, we have a vampire king, a castle where most of the action takes place, balls and great dresses. On the other hand, there is a lot of dialogue and things from our present day that just don't fit in here. On top of the lack of world-building and the absence of an explanation about what era we're in, sadly, we also didn't get any further info about the rebellion and what exactly their problem with the vampires is, apart from the fact that the vampires are "evil." The whole blood oath thing and how everything turned out at the end was pretty much just a typical problem-and-fix scenario. The characters' sudden change of heart at the end was totally out of left field. The whole point of the story was to have a happy ending. The plot before that was just a lot of back and forth between the two protagonists, which could have been resolved through communication. It wasn't really exciting and rather a bit annoying. I noticed that a lot of reviews mentioned the spicy part, like when Benedict basically "rapes" her on the desk in his office, and they're shocked about his character change. To be honest, it didn't really surprise me. I guess I'm kind of used to reading that kind of stuff in dark romance books. I have to admit, I was a bit annoyed by how spicy it was and how they were always about to have sex. I'll admit, it got a bit annoying at one point. I think a good book, whether it's dark romance, fantasy romance, or just plain romance, knows when to add some spice and when to hold back. If you include four pages of a spice scene for every instance of sexual intercourse, you'll make your readers become desensitized to it. I think a lot of authors don't really get that "less is more" sometimes. We need that craving, that desire, that hunger. But slow burn and yearning will always be alpha. Hey, just a friendly reminder to maybe not cram too many sex scenes down our throats — we all get a bit bored and annoyed by them, you know? My friend and I are also working on a book together. I've noticed that her writing style includes a lot of sexual content and long sexual scenes, which makes for some pretty uncomfortable reading. It's not the content, but it's so boring. You're here, and you're ready to go again. And again, if you've already gone through five pages of sexual description, you've got enough for the rest of the book. I think that's something authors should keep in mind.
