Rezension von Peanut"Die einzige Möglichkeit, eine Versuchung loszuwerden, ist, ihr nachzugeben." Die Geschichte von Dorian Gray hat mich gefesselt und lässt mich auch nach dem Lesen nicht los. Der junge, perfekte Dorian wird durch die Einflüsse seiner Freunde und seine eigenen Versuchungen verdorben und verfällt charakterlich immer mehr. Sein äußeres Erscheinungsbild bleibt jedoch makellos. Es ist eine starke Metapher für innere und äußere Schönheit: Von seiner verdorbenen Seele kann niemand etwas sehen, weil sein Äußeres weiterhin perfekt scheint. Oscar Wilde gelingt es auf faszinierende Weise, der Geschichte einen philosophischen Sinn zu verleihen. Die langen Monologe und Dialoge von Lord Henry und Dorian Gray greifen immer wieder Themen wie Moral, das Altern und die Gesellschaft auf. Neben den lebendigen Beschreibungen der Charaktere und der Umgebung schafft es Wilde auch, dass man Dorian Gray mit der Zeit immer mehr verachtet. Narzissmus und Egoismus zerstören nicht nur das Umfeld, sondern holen einen irgendwann auch selbst ein - obwohl die Fassade nach außen hin weiterhin perfekt wirkt.
Rezension von Agostina.3.5⭐ Loved the story, hated the execution. That's a "me" problem, because I'm not really into the classics, but MAN some parts were so tedious to get through... The writing felt like word vomit. Chapter 11? <i>My God.</i> I understand the purpose (I really do!), but it was a bit too much, a bit overdone. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. There's some great commentary in this that is still very much relevant.
