I will start with asking myself and everybody out there who the fck designed this cover? Like girl: It looks like trash, okay... Something no reader would like in their shelves I personally read it on my E-Book because of this cover and even if I loved the story and the characters so so much, I won't buy it as a real book. Really hoping this will someday get a better cover... Anyway enough about this cover-talk. Nobody wants to hear about that... Let's just say: THE STORY WAS AMAZING, OKAY?! I loved the representation and the feminism and everything. This is like 400 pages of watching Merlin. Just as gay and funny and cute. I started this books with expecting nothing great. Just wanted a book to chill down and for me gay arthurian is like Disney Land so I thought: why not this one. I want to start saying something about the characters. While reading you can totally see how much the author thought while writing those characters. Sometimes you totally know what they're going to do, sometimes they really surprise you but they never go out of character. That's just what I love about them. I really don't like it when I can't understand characters and their choices, and in this book I've actually been pretty good at that in most cases. In fact, it's pretty hard not to like one of the main characters. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about baddass protagonist Emry or Arthur the book lover. I particularly loved that the author didn't turn Arthur into a swordfight-obsessed braggart, but rather into a kind of good boy who also has rough edges. Seems nice to me. It's also great that the author didn't stick to the Arthur saga 100% (okay, what does 100% mean, there are probably 10,000 versions of this story) but also included her own ideas. I really wouldn't have liked reading another love story about Guinever and Lancelot or Guinever and Arthur. that's just boring. give me more of the (emry) merlin and arthur ship. Unfortunately, I also have to say something negative about the course of the story itself. the arc of suspense was a little too small for me. Although the book is perfect if you want to chill out and read something nice and light, I often just missed the adrenaline and something like the 'epic finale'. The antagonist only appeared towards the end of the book and to be honest I don't even remember what happened to her at the end. That was a little disappointing for me. I can highly recommend this to everybody who is as arthurian obsessed as me and to everybody else who just needs a bit of easy fantasy in their life. 3,5/5
