The Least Amount of Awful

von Jennifer Millikin

Format:Softcover

Colbie Jones has worked hard to design a pain-free life. So when she catches her boyfriend cheating, it doesn’t hurt that much. But when Colbie receives a call that her estranged father, Emmett, has been badly injured, she realizes it’s time to pack her bags and finally face him — and that’s going to hurt. Colbie’s arrival sends shock waves through the small town, but it affects Jake Whittier most of all. Single-dad and foreman of Jones Construction, Jake sees Emmett as the father he no longer has, and that makes him an opponent of all things Colbie Jones.Jake’s obvious animosity doesn’t bother Colbie, because she’s leaving in three days, tops. But then her dad asks her to stay and take over his business while he recovers, and Colbie hears herself agreeing before she has fully considered the proposal. Never mind that she has no idea how to build a house. Jake will just have to deal with having her around. But the more time Colbie spends with Jake, the more she sees why the rest of the town likes him. And once Colbie meets Jake’s son, it’s all downhill from there. Colbie thought the most challenging part of this arrangement would be having to work with Jake. But falling for him? That would be awful.

This was the fluffy small town romance featuring a single dad and a badass woman I WAS IN NEED OFF. Let me just tell you: I have a super important exam tomorrow and all I did today was read. THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS BOOK. I DEVOURED IT LIKE I WOULD A HOT CHOCOLATE WITH MARSHMALLOWS. It certainly gave the same amount of happy feelings and giddiness. We follow Colbie, who has to take over her dads construction business after he had an accident, and Jake, who’s working for said construction business and the boss‘ second. This is the kind of story I just eat up. Fierce business woman has to go to a small town. Meets single dad. They start on bad terms but eventually, with the help of the charming little kid, the dislike turns into a different quite passionate feeling for each other. AND SHES HIS BOSS. This book was just a blast to read. It’s the complete package deal: falling in love, finding back to your family but also finding new family. It has banter. It has spice. It’s pure happiness. Like snuggling up in a warm blanket. And the added construction business aspect just made it into something unique and so intriguing! We stan a woman with a tool belt. Also - we got healthy communication from everyone (still in awe about that one?), which I could hug the author for. They talked, just like normal adults. Not many romance books are able to do that, as it seems. But this time, no one slapped me in the face with miscommunication here. Thank god. If you are in your small town era, just like me, or you feel like you need to enter it: this is a must read! You get everything that the small town promises from swoony hot construction worker over gossipy café owner to found family and finding a home. I’ve never read a book by the author before, but I SEE YOU JENNIFER. YOU‘RE ON MY RADAR NOW. Colbie, Jake and Robbie just warmed my heart reading about them. And I also swooned every other page for Jake cause that man is just pure goals. It’s not a want at this point - it’s a need. I need a Jake. This book is out 2nd March! Go grab your copies then! 4
