The Honeymoon Car
von Eugene Nordstrom
Review The Honeymoon Car is a charming story about a couple trying to salvage their marriage. The poignant tale of love....is well worth the trip! The story ends wonderfully and happily for all concerned. --Packards International Magazine, Fall, 2007 Product Description The Honeymoon Car is a love story about two couples - decades apart - who are drawn together in an extraordinary way. Out of the mists of time, a pristine Packard Super 8 pulls up to the main entrance of a fashionable lakeside resort. How could curious onlookers know its young passengers have come from a wedding that occurred fifty-three years earlier? From their own tragic experiences with loss, Larry and Molly Hill have learned how love can heal. Now, possessing a revelation powerful enough to even survive death, they have returned with a message that can change troubled lives forever. From the Author Having just retired from three decades of practicing marital therapy, I could have chosen to write a textbook on what makes marriage work. However, after deciding that it would appeal to a limited number of readers, primarily mental health professionals, I chose to try to reach a larger audience by presenting essentially the same message in novel form. The 1940 Packard in my story is a metaphor for enduring love. A real car, I attribute its pristine condition, its survival over time, to many years of loving care and attention. Like a good marriage, it has never been taken for granted. From the Inside Flap Sitting behind the steering wheel, she tried to reconstruct what had just happened. "I remember I was fighting drowsiness. I must have dozed off,--and then there was that voice." Had she unconsciously warned herself of imminent danger? After pondering that possibility, she concluded, "It would have been impossible because I didn't know about the cliff." She concentrated on the voice itself, "A man's voice, no doubt about that." Then, an incredible question crossed her mind: "Could it possibly have been...?" A light-headed feeling caused her mind to drift away from such an incomprehensible thought; but the question remained. What did happen that night on the way to Seattle? From the Back Cover Inspiration for Eugene Nordstrom's first novel, The Honeymoon Car, was not only drawn from his extensive mental health career; but also from a beautifully preserved 1940 Packard Super 8 Touring Sedan--and the mysterious journal that came with it. About the Author As a mental health professional, Dr. Eugene Nordstrom worked thirty years for the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program, Northwest Region. During that time, he practiced clinical psychotherapy with children and adults, marital therapy, and served as Associate Chief of the Mental Health Department. A life-long native of the Pacific Northwest, he and his wife, Barbara, have homes in Washington State and on the Oregon coast.
