I loved that SHE is the 261-year-old fae shadow mommy and he is the 28-year-old human knight. Also loved the elemental magic, and the fact that she keeps saving him? Absolutely delicious. Finally some flipped clichés, thank you very much. That said… Cedric was sometimes a liiiittle too incompetent for my taste. Like sir, please help yourself at least once. He also annoyed me here and there and felt kind of awkward in a way I couldn’t fully get behind. Story-wise, it was pretty basic romantasy. Very predictable, not super suspenseful, and you could see most things coming from a mile away. So while I really appreciate the effort to turn the usual tropes on their head (points for that!), the plot and characters could’ve gone a lot deeper. All in all: good attempt, strong trope reversal, but I wanted more depth and less “I’ve seen this exact story before.”
