Eight-year old Algiukas dreams of flying around the world with his goose Martyn. It soon happens, but in a completely different way than he imagined. On an early morning in June 1941, a regiment of soldiers rouses Algiukas, his sister Dalia, dad Roma and mother Uršula from their beds and orders them to pack their things and prepare for the trip. Why deport them? What did they do? Where is Siberia? A host of questions is humming in Algiukas' mind. There, in the distant, foreign icy land of Siberia, the family has to survive by eating frozen potatoes, making soup with tears and warming hearts with songs, until after long days, months, and years, the children are rescued from Siberia by an "orphan train", and the returnees will be able to tell this story. Siberian Haiku is a story written by Jurga Vilé about her father Algis' memories of being exiled from his home in Lithuania as a child.
