Rezension von Raphaela "Save the Cat!" gilt vielen als das Standardwerk fürs Drehbuchschreiben und so hat sich diese Autorin vorgenommen, aus dem Erfolgsrezept auch eine Anleitung für Romane zu schreiben. Technisch betrachtet, ist es ganz ordentlich, die Aufteilung der Stories und die Schreibratschläge machen Sinn, aber das Buch ist wirklich anstrengend zu lesen. Zum einen hat es einfach diesen gruseligen Franchise Werbeton, als wolle die Autorin einem ihre Seminare verkaufen (ich musste teilweise wirklich an Tupperparties und Shopping TV denken), zum anderen besteht gut die Hälfte des Buches aus Beispielen in denen veröffentliche Romane in epischer Breite seziert und gemäß der "Save the Cat!" Formel aufgedröselt werden. Das ist ein, zweimal interessant, wenn man die behandelten Romane mag, auch noch öfter, aber 10 mal (ein Beispiel für jedes Genre) ist einfach zu viel und wahnsinnig ermüdend. Zumal nach der ausführlichen Analyse nochmal eine gestraffte Zusammenfassung der Analyse folgt, die auf rund fünf Seiten nochmal genau das selbe in weniger Worten sagt, was auf den 20 Seiten davor behandelt wurde. Inhaltlich kann man sicher etwas von dem Buch lernen, wenn man sich fürs Schreiben interessiert, aber der Aufbau zieht es unnötig in die Länge.
