ich glaub, das wirkt noch lange nach.
Aua.
Prima Facie is uncomfortable. It feels less like a novel and more like being locked in a room from which there is no escape. Tessa Ensler left me in a constant state of conflicted emotions. I found it hard to sympathize with her. She spent most of her career shielding men from consequenzes. She played into the system, which is not designed to protect victims anyway, and defended the people (men) who had commited harm. At the same time, it's impossible not to feel sorry for her. The violence, betrayal and procedural injustice she endures are devastating. I simultaneously wanted to shake her for all the harm she enabled and cradle her for the suffering she cannot escape. I would love to see the play adaptation, as I think it would sometimes portray the emotional aspects better than the book. Even here, however, the gut-wrenching injustices and moral complexity come across in their full force. In the end, Prima Facie succeeds in its core mission, to expose the cruelty of a system that rewards complicity while punishing vulnerability. The writing may stumble sometimes, but the story, the tension and the heartbreak are impossible to ignore.
