Phantasma : A Dark Fantasy Romance

von Kaylie Smith

Format:Softcover

Welcome to Phantasma. There are only two rules to the game. Stay alive. And don't fall in love. When Ophelia's sister disappears, there is only one way to save her. Ophelia must enter Phantasma, a deadly contest inside a haunted mansion, and claim its prize--a single wish. Phantasma is a maze of twisting corridors and lavish ballrooms, of demons and temptations. Ophelia will face nine challenges, each more dangerous than the last. There can only be one winner, and the other contestants will stop at nothing to eliminate their rivals. Every day the house creates new monsters. But just as Ophelia's fears threaten to overwhelm her, a mysterious stranger offers her a bargain. Charming, arrogant and infuriatingly attractive, Blackwell claims he can guide her through the lethal trials ahead. All he asks in return is ten years of her life. Ophelia knows she shouldn't trust him. Blackwell doesn't seem dangerous, but appearances can be deceptive. Worse still, she feels a dark and irresistible attraction drawing them closer and closer. Her life is on the line. But in Phantasma, the only thing deadlier than losing the game is losing your heart...

I was obsessed! Loved the love story. It was a little too horrory for me. Need less blood 🤣 but I loved it nonetheless.

Ja was soll ich sagen?

I don’t even know where to start tbh. I wanted to read this book so badly because I thought it would be similar to Powerless by Lauren Roberts, which is the book that got me into romantasy in the first place. I lowkey wanted to relive the feelings I had while reading my first romantasy book. A lot of people compare Phantasma to Caraval or the ACOTAR series, but I haven’t read those yet, so I can’t really compare. I also saw a lot of bad reviews on Goodreads, which honestly made me a bit nervous. Now for my actual review. If you’re looking for a very action-packed fantasy, then Phantasma is probably not for you. For me, this book felt very cozy, especially with its gothic vibes. The trials in the book weren’t that special, not gonna lie. BUT I still really enjoyed this book. It was actually so fun to read. Like I said, I found it really cozy because it’s super easy to read. You don’t have to think too much while reading it, you just turn the pages and enjoy what’s happening. The plot twist at the end surprised me so much that I genuinely needed a minute before continuing. And the spice… the spice really spiced. For me, it didn’t feel like just pure smut. Some parts were written so beautifully, in my opinion, and honestly the whole book had moments that were just really well written. At first, I didn’t think I would give this book 5 stars because it wasn’t THAT special plot-wise. But the chemistry between the main characters, Ophelia and Blackwell, and the whole setting completely had me. When I read the very first line, I was a little scared because I realized it was written in third person, which I had never read before. But it was so easy to get into and didn’t bother me at all. So yeah, this book was very good for me. I really, really enjoyed it. 🖤📖
