Rezension von Carlos R. Diaz"Who Will Save Your Soul" is NOT only a Jewel song, but a philosophical statement of painful truth. Gabriel Tallent's debut novel "My Absolute Darling" is nothing short of a modern literary masterpiece. However, it was a trudge to get through the narrative of this story of survival of the mind, body and soul. Turtle Alveston, nicknamed "Kibble" and named Julia, is the protagonist who finds herself living in a fairy tale world of jungles, trees, animals and predators—her father, the charismatic survivalist Martin. He unleashes brutality upon her on a nightly basis (see Pages 20-22, ending Chapter 1). She is forged to be strong, like a rock. The book is 400 pages of her survival from her unforgiving environs and the claws of her sadistic father, who she loves. It was a good story, but I'm glad it's over. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a tale of survival, hope and redemption. That is all.
