i have no idea what to think right now - it was a great book, yes and i love the universe more after these 2 books! but tbh most parts of me are just confused about everything - it‘s a lot to digest, so many twists and turns and don‘t even get me started on the last few pages - what the hel?? or maybe what the not hel?? first of all it felt very easy to get into the multiple povs - and i think i liked all of them - of course theres always ones you love more than others but none felt bad to me. and yes i also love all of the characters - BUT i am soooo on edge unlike any other sjm book - somehow i trust and love everyone but also i see treason around EVERY PAGE TURNED? i think i just cant trust sjm as of right now so i‘m scared as fuck with which character she‘ll break my heart with next i think i just have no good words to review this book because it‘s got the typical characteristics as a middle book in a series - there are SO MANY plots happening so many new secrets, new people, new allies and every storyline is just hanging there and is going to get continued further - this book was an introduction into the complicity that is going to await us in the next books, so i guess i‘ll just be thrilled and scared to go on reading
This book entertained and excited me a lot, but still couldn't come close to my feelings after reading the first book of this series. I actually liked Ruhn the most in this book and I am so so psyched to continue reading his love story. I already enjoyed it a lot in this book, but boy this is gonna be big in the sequels - I can't wait. In this book you also get to know Ruhn's "boys club" a little better and while I am still not really grasping Dec, I am falling a little bit in love with Flynn and his sassy side. I am so ready to read more about their bickering and adventures - they remind me of the ACOTAR "bat club". Ruhn is not the only person I got to know a little better in this book. It holds multiple POVs and that did get a little to much for me. Especially in the beginning it threw me off the main story line and didn't get me all that excited about continuing to read. It took me around 300 pages to get accomodated with the world and the characters again. In these 300 happend so little, SJM should have cut those at least 150 pages. The middle part was very entertaining and I got entangeled with the different plot lines and actions of the multiple main characters. I especially fell in love with Ruhn story and another one (no spoilers here). I think the book didn't need one of those POVs (this actually bored me a lot), but maybe it will be important in the sequels, so I am excited to see what's coming our way. The story started very slow and then the pacing reminded me of the first book - which is a very good thing. I got to know the different characters better and could get emotionally attached to them all over again. But I expected mind blowing plottwist and while there where a few, one of which I unfortunately saw coming, it didn't knock me out of my seat like Crescent City I did. The last few pages seem very promising for the sequel though, but I don't know yet if I like how things turned out.
That ending
I can not count the number of times I put that book down and picked it up again before finally finishing it. The first half was very slow and I had a rough time getting in to it. But everything was worth it. I loved the friendship dynamics and every plot twist which catched me off guard. Every single time. And the END! I love everything about it.
