I had wanted to get back into reading for a long time, and after watching Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, I figured there was no better place to start. I have to admit: I had never actually read Homer's Odyssey before. That felt like a good enough reason to change it. I picked up the German translation by Johann Heinrich Voß. The first few chapters were challenging, and it took me some time to adjust to the language and style. But once I found my rhythm, I completely understood why this work has captivated readers for centuries. Odysseus' epic journey is both thrilling and deeply emotional. Homer creates unforgettable characters, dramatic encounters, and moments that still resonate today. While the writing style is, of course, very different from modern novels, it never stopped me from becoming invested in the story. Is this the perfect book for someone just getting into reading? Probably not. Do I regret starting with it? Not at all. It was exciting, emotional, and ultimately far more rewarding than I expected. Honestly, I enjoyed it even more than the film. Greek mythology has always somehow fascinated me, and The Odyssey has only strengthened that interest. I'll definitely continue exploring this world. If you haven't read The Odyssey yet, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
