Book club #9 I really love the style of the book and the writer. It doesn't take itself seriously, love this kind of humor blended with a crime story. It is slowly built, and that made me even more excited, but I can understand that it can make other people impatient. It worked for me, because I loved the writing style as well, so it was a very smooth reading journey. Also I read it in english, and the writer uses expressions or words that were unfamiliar for me. That made a little bit harder, sometimes I needed to use a vocabulary. But I find it also positive, because through reading the book, I could learn a lot of new words. About the story... I don't want to spoil my whole review, but I also want to remember of the story later. So I guess, I am going to write the whole story in the next section: The title is a little bit tricky, not everyone in his family really killed somebody, only indirectly. The book goes through all the family members, telling about their story. The main thread is about the murder of Alan, who is killed by Micheal (the brother of Ernie), after a robbery, taking the money, and asking for the help of the main character, Ernie. But Ernie has a sense of guilt, and goes to the police, and report the murder. Basically just betray his brother. He is just getting out of prison after 3 years, and now the whole family is gathered on a Mountain resort. It is a huuuge family reunion. Everybody is on the edge, which is intensified, when they find a dead body in the snow. That is when the real story begins, revealing details and pieces of truth from the past. An investigation starts. Ernie is our detective. We learn the whole truth in the end, in an Agatha Christie like situation, Ernie gathers everyone in a room, where he exposes the truth. I loved how he finishes that chapter of the book like he already revealed everything, I totally forgot, that he didn't told the truth about one thing, but don't worry, it is also revealed at the very end. SPOILER Just for myself the truth in points: - Ernie, Jeremy and Micheal's father was part of a band, who started to do worse and worse things - He wanted a loophole, started to give information about the band to the police as a mole - He saw a murder, also shot pictures of it, revealing the identity of the murderer - This was about the murder of a young girl, who was kidnapped, and her parents didn't pay the money on time - He died, everybody thinking that he was a junkie, shooting a policeman, but the truth is, that he was the good guy, and actually the policemen who shot him, was the bad guys trying to cover up their crimes - The band wants to get the pictures - They starting to threaten Audrey, their mother - They even kidnaped Jeremy, but Audrey lied everyone, that Jeremy died, when she left them with Ernie in a car on the sun - Audrey couldn't find the pictures, so after 7 years she thinks, that Jeremy is really dead - Marcelo, Audrey's new husband gets the Rolex of their father - Marcelo has an operation of his shoulder, which his daughter does on him, secretly stealing his watch, selling it for money to buy oxicodon - Alan, one of the cop, who was in the shooting with their father gets info of the rolex watch - He is afraid to threaten the real murderer on the pictures, to get money, so he look up one of the Cunningham boys - Here is the huge cliffhanger, Jeremy is alive, and Alan knows it, he was adopted after 2 years alone on the streets. Alan finds him, and tries to convince him to help him get money from the murderer, that is when Jeremy finds out about his real identity - Because Jeremy wouldn't help, Alan goes to Micheal - Micheal helps him get the money, but he also takes a lot from it, which Alans finds out, and whip out his gun - That is when Micheal shots him - Micheal goes for help to Ernie - Ernie knows nothing, he finally call the police - Micheal goes to jail for 3 years - The family reunion - Family members including Micheal are dying - Jeremy killed his parents, also the policewoman, who was their father help from the past, and a real cop on the Mountain, and disguise himself as this cop - When he tells about his murder desires to Micheal, he expects Micheal as a former murderer share his feelings, but when he doesn't, he kills Micheal too - In the end Jeremy is killed in the fire, that he caused, or does he? We don't really know, only that Ernie is with him, after he is getting out of the burning house, still breathing. Then a little bit later, he stops breathing. Does Ernie helped him to stop breathing? We don't know.

I was a Little bit disappointed about this one. The first couple pages were promising but after I while the narrator lost me. Withholding informations and some plot holes that have (on the contrary to the clever parts of the book) very simplistic and almost too easy seeming explanations. I liked the characters and the dynamics but sadly had to force myself to finish it because it just really wasn’t for me… It is extremely well written and I do think of this a type of book you have liked before, you will indeed love this one as well…It just wasn’t for me as a reader
