Dire Bound (Standard Edition) (The Wolves of Ruin, 1)
von Sable Sorensen
Fourth Wing meets The Hunger Games in this spicy, page-turning romantasy where humans and direwolves forge unbreakable bonds and fight for survival at all costs. Only the worthy survive the Bonding Trials. She'll risk her life--and her heart--to be one of them. Meryn Cooper has always hated the Bonded, elite warriors who form mental links with the massive, vicious direwolves they ride. While they live in luxury, Meryn struggles to keep her family out of poverty. When her little sister, Saela, is kidnapped--stolen across the border by the immortal monsters her country has spent centuries fighting--Meryn's world falls apart. Desperate to cross the front and save her sister, Meryn enlists in the army and is thrown into the deadly Bonding Trials, where any mistake will cost her life. Now Meryn must survive four months of training at the castle. She is bound to a feral direwolf who refuses to communicate. The other trainees would love to spill her common blood. And her cold and beautiful instructor, Stark Therion, is eager to punish any weakness. Everything is a competition, and everyone is out to get her--everyone except the dangerously handsome crown prince, whose attention adds another target to her back. In the castle, every smile hides a knife...and the halls hide dark secrets. It's bond or bleed. Duel or die. Failure is ruin. Dire Bound contains mature content including depictions of graphic violence, and is therefore recommended for readers 17+. For a full list of tropes and TWs, please visit the author's website.
Sadly this was not it for me. Spoilers ahead: First of all I know my taste can be rather specific, I understand some people won’t share my opinion but I need to say this. This book had so much potential that went to waste. The writing and the idea were great but the plot and the character were horrible. Cons: Meryn is a stubborn and annoying girl that thinks she knows everything better. She proves to not listen, neither to her direwolf nor Stark who clearly were more experienced. Character development? Not for this woman Killian/Lee was so obviously the villain. I literally hated every scene with him which was like 96% of the book. Therefore I barely enjoyed it. You want to convince me he was good? Like cmon. His kitten nickname gave me the ick. Too. Many. Spicy. Scenes. With. Killian. I understood one or two but there were way too many considering he isn’t even the endgame. I had to skip them because it was just annoying. I like spice but Killian was unlikable and therefore also those scenes (must’ve been around 8-9 spicy scenes). Those pages should’ve been used to maybe make her character more like-able or develop the relationship between her and Stark. Meryn describing almost every male as beautiful or attractive or whatsoever. Like cmon. It made her look like she lusted for them and it was annoying. You want to convince me she is so blindly in love with Killian while acting like that? It also made the connection between her and Stark less special because apparently she finds everyone attractive. Her hypocritical behavior. Saying Killian is the love of her life while ogling Stark. Interactions between Stark and her were merely there. I was so bored throughout the book. How can it be they had their first real conversation at around 370. All before that was just staring. You can’t tell me you enjoy reading 200 pages of staring. This weird attraction at the end was random. Yeah she thought Stark was sexy (like every other male) but now she was so hot for him? The end also felt way too rushed. I read the book completely to give it a chance but sadly enough it just stayed the same for me. As I said I have very specific taste and I wanted to like Killian for the sake of the book but it was not possible. The idea and the concept are great but for me everything around it was not enjoyable.
Mein absolutes Lesehighlight 2026!
Wow wow wow! So ein gutes Buch! Sämtliche Gefühle durchlaufen - ich lieb‘s total! ❤️🔥
