Rezension von Raphaela Greenloop sollte ein kleines Utopia für ausgewählte Bewohner sein. Smart Homes, Bio Lifestyle, weg vom Stress derMetropolen und der Vorstadtsiedlungen, zurück zur Natur, aber mit allen modernen Annehmlichkeiten. Ein wahrgewordener Traum für die Bewohner, bis der (fitkive) Ausbruch des Mount Rainier die Ganze Region bis Seattle ins Chaos stürzt und Greenloop komplett von der Außenwelt abschneidet. Doch der Wegfall von Internet, den Lieferdrohnen und Shoppingtouren sind bald das geringste Problem der kleinen Gruppe.Denn der Ausbruch hat etwas in der Wildniss aufgeschreckt und das beginnt Jagd auf die Bewohner zu machen. Max Brooks hat es einfach nicht mit normaler Erzählsrtuktur und so setzt sich diese Geschichte zusammen aus dem Tagebuch der Greenloop Bewohnerin Kate, Interviews mit der Leiterin des Suchteams, Zeitungsartikeln, Interviews mit Kates Bruder und diversen weiteren Interviews, Artikeln und Buchzitaten. Ist am Anfang etwas sperrig zu lesen, aber letztendlich so gut gemacht, dass man am Ende eine Geschichte hat, die sich wesentlich vollständiger anfühlt, als vieles, was man sonst aus dem Genre kennt. Gerade solche Fragen wie "Warum zur Hölle hat das Rettungsteam so lange gebraucht" werden durch diesen Stil wirklich zufriedenstellend geklärt. Ich mochte Brooks andere Bücher nicht besonders, gerade das gehypte World War Z fand ich nervig, einfach weil es keine einzige sympathische Figur enthielt und bei Devolution sah es zu Beginn auch so aus, Allerdings hat dieses Format den Vorteil, dass Brooks seinen Charakteren diesmal die Chance auf Entwicklung zum Positiven gegeben hat. Für "Bigfoot macht Jagdauf Menschen " Horror bin ich sowieso immer zu haben. Allerdings macht das hier den geringeren Teil des Buchs aus, was auch gar nicht schlimm ist. Denn das wesentlich spannendere Thema hier, ist das das Verhalten der Menschen. Die New Tech Öko Bewegung, back to Nature, die Natur macht uns Glücklich, wenn wir in Harmonie mit ihr leben, plötzlich konfrontiert mit der Realität, was Natur wirklich bedeutet, wenn man sie nicht durch die rosa Filter der Sozialen Medien betrachtet. Wie zieht man aus Samen eigenes Essen? Wie baut man eine Waffe? Wie verteidigt man sich, wenn das halbe Haus aus zerbrechlichem Glas besteht? Was in der Natur ist harmlos, was stellt eine Bedorhung für einen da? Ja, manche Figuren sind etwas nahe am Klischee gebaut, das tut dem ganzen Set up jedoch keinen Abbruch. Ein spannendes, unterhaltsames Buch, für Fans von Found Footage Horror.
