Daughter of No Worlds

von Carissa Broadbent

Format:Hardcover

Her life for freedom. Her blood for love. Her soul for vengeance. Ripped from a forgotten homeland as a child, Tisaanah learned how to survive with nothing but a sharp wit and a touch of magic. But the night she tries to buy her freedom, she barely escapes with her life. Desperate to save the best friend she left behind, Tisaanah journeys to the Orders, the most powerful organizations of magic Wielders in the world. To join their ranks, she must complete an apprenticeship with Maxantarius Farlione, a handsome and reclusive fire wielder who despises the Orders. The Orders' intentions are cryptic, and Tisaanah must prove herself under the threat of looming war. But even more dangerous are her growing feelings for Maxantarius. The bloody past he wants to forget may be the key to her future... or the downfall of them both. Tisaanah will stop at nothing to save those she abandoned. Even if it means gambling in the Orders' deadly games. Even if it means sacrificing her heart. Even if it means wielding death itself. A tale of dark magic, passionate romance, vengeance and redemption, for fans of Carissa Broadbent's Crowns of Nyaxia series. Continue the series with Children of Fallen Gods, the captivating second book in the War of Lost Hearts trilogy.

Oh I loved this! Max and Tisaanah’s relationship and how it develops is wonderful. There’s a natural flow to them which I enjoy greatly. Just two very capable people with terrible pasts finding each other and growing closer in between a much larger plot. It all fits together very well. I also appreciate that the book tackles topics like slavery, rape, murder, etc and they get the importance and weight they require without taking center stage for the stake of dramatics. Reshaye is simply masterfully done. Really. Wow. I have my reservations about the initial language problem, though. Tisaanah cannot fully speak Max’s language and while we see her struggle I think there should be a bit more of a pattern to her struggle. A bit more consistency. But that’s really just me nitpicking, overall the language barrier is believable. The reason Daughter of no Worlds is not a full five stars for me is that we get presented with a magic system that has two Orders and an apprentice system for these orders, so magic is taught, but we learn very little about the rules of magic. We get some explanation over the course of the book but I’d have liked a bit more. Doesn’t need to be info dumping, just a few dropped comments here and there about the nature of magic, how people can have an affinity with certain things—anything, really. I do not mind a soft magic system, but this is an attempt to mix and mash soft and hard I feel, and at least in book one it doesn’t quite convince me. But I am looking forward to the rest of the trilogy! There is still much to be done after all

JoanneRezension von Joanne

I absolutely loved getting to know these characters and slowly uncovering their story alongside them. The romance felt honest, natural, and built on such a strong foundation that I became deeply invested in it. I loved how much time the story gave me to feel and understand everything, even if the ending felt a little rushed and didn’t quite hit with the same impact.

Also come on. Und was passiert da drunter?

🙂‍↕️ I mean: ein Mann, ein Buch & Blumen - was will man mehr ??!!
