I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I unknowingly read slaying the shadow prince first and was not fond of the writing style. This one was a glorious slow burn and focused on a woman trying to find her place in a world of men.
I really enjoyed the opening installment of this series. I like Thea as a protagonist, but I especially loved Kipp and Cal! It’s so nice to finally have side characters who truly have their own personalities and who you really grow attached to. The tension with Wilder felt a bit too strong too early on at first, but it developed well over time. I like how different elements are hinted at early and then continue to unfold later, keeping the suspense alive throughout. The only downside for me was the whole “sword fighter” theme—it’s just not really my thing, but that’s purely a matter of personal taste. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this book and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the story continues!
A MUST READ!! i loved the story and couldn't put it down
