Rezension von JoanneThis book didn't convince me at all. I couldn't form a deeper connection with the characters, neither could I relate to the love story. The whole vampire theme felt artificially imposed and the overplayed toxic mentor role made Carmilla and Laura seem foolish to me. Maybe I would have liked the book 10 years ago. 2.5 stars for me here.
Rezension von carolinlinda.arndtz@gmail.comI did appreciate the writing, it was somewhat poetic, perhaps a little performative but I mostly liked it nonetheless. However, why the fuck did they have sex in a room full of people? It didn't suit Laura's character at all. It was very obscene for a shy person like her. For me personally it was a little too much, but that's maybe just me. The power dynamics are truly concerning. This is borderline grooming. I also don't think it was a retelling of Carmilla at all every "omg One Direction adopted me"-Wattpad fanfiction has more in common with the original inspiration than this. Yet it was a cleverly written plot. Overall, not my cup of tea, but I'm sure some people would absolutely love this. However, I didn't.
