This story is number three on my list of <i>Favorite John Green Books</i>, The Fault in Our Stars in second and Paper Towns in first. Okay, so I'm going to start critiquing here. <b>**WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!**</b> <b><u>PART 1: STORY PLOT</u></b> <spoiler>Yeah, so about the story's plot... I didn't even know what this story will lead to so I totally didn't know what I would feel about <i>Katherines</i> (The book). All I knew is that Colin Singleton (the story's MC) wanted to finish a Theorem he thought out on his very first "Eureka" moment (A Greek word meaning "I have found it."). I never knew Lindsey Lee Wells (The girl whom Colin would eventually fall in love with) would have a more important part in the story (but really, all she did in the story was to wait until Colin fell in love with her and until she found out that her boyfriend - who was also named "Colin" and is called TOC, meaning "The Other Colin", by Hassan and Colin the protagonist - cheated on her with their other friend Katrina (who Hassan dated util Hassan found out that Katrina cheated on him with "TOC"). At least, that was how I pictured it. Anyway, the story's summary on the back of the paperback version of "The Abundance of Katherines" didn't really tell anything about Lindsey <i>at all</i> (which is a good thing, actually). It only told that Colin wanted to finish his Theorem named "The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability". But still... I didn't really like the story's plot like I loved Paper Towns' and TFiOS'. So too bad :(</spoiler> <b><u>PART 2: THE CHARACTERS</u></b> <spoiler>The characters in the story are Colin Singleton (The Main Character), Lindsey Lee Wells (The MC's later love interest in the story), The Other Colin (Lindsey's boyfriend before Colin the MC), Hassan (Colin's best friend), Hollis (Lindsey's mother), Katrina (Hassan's later girlfriend in the story but they broke up a few chapters after), Chase and Fulton (who are both members of Lindsey, Katrina and The Other Colin's group of friends). While I was reading about Colin, I thought <i>"Wow, this is</i> such <i>a gay character"</i>. But I also couldn't believe that <i>"</i>Man, <i>he's dated NINETEEN girls? And they all DUMPED him?"</i>. And guess what: All of his girlfriends are named Katherine. What. On. Earth. This just proves that there are (possibly) so many girlfriend-worthy girls who are all named Katherine. K-A-T-H-E-R-I-N-E. O.O Anyway, I couldn't relate much with Colin, and I had no idea what kind of mind he has (He's smart.... He's <i>too</i> smart...! Prodigy *pwshf* Prodigy *pwshf* Prodigy alert!!). I mean, when I saw his formula for his Theorem I was like <img src="http://media.tumblr.com/3774ece5a102df40eeae3883ad02d01b/tumblr_inline_mrn3e0PJD71s3gnk2.gif" alt="description"/> That is <i>seriously</i> some formula I <i>cannot</i> understand! But anyway, I realized it was a formula that is easier to understand than I thought it would. The numbers just gave me a headache the first time I turned the page and saw it with my own eyes. <img src="http://64.19.142.10/media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4vkso0rmg1qj3ir1.gif" alt="description"/> Okay, so now... Hassan. On the other hand, is a Muslim who doesn't follow some rules in the Muslim Religion because of reasons I won't say (I've given enough spoilers already). He dates Katrina (which I have said for about three times already so I hope that's finally stuck in your head) but finds out that she cheated him with TOC (The Other Colin) while they were in a Hog Hunt. Hassan is a guy who does what he wants and likes to joke around with Colin. Like when he and Colin pretended to be different people (Hassan and Colin pretending to be cousins from France visiting the U.S. for the first time with Hassan being the English speaker) when they first met TOC, Chase and Fulton. Truth be told, I kind of like Hassan's personality. Now, let's go to Lindsey. Lindsey, in my opinion, is a normal girl who, in my understanding, agreed to be TOC's girlfriend only to up her social status. She didn't really love TOC because when they "broke up", she didn't feel any pain or suffering or any hoolaballoos people experience when breaking up with their boyfriends or girlfriends. Honestly, I can't even tell any more about Lindsey because seriously, she's just living a normal life with a few bad situations here and there. She's simply just a normal girl (based on what I think what a normal girl is like). Hollis is always described watching television while doing "work" in the living room. But mostly she'll be found sleeping on the couch with the t.v. still on (talk about wasting electricity). <img src="http://24.media.tumblr.com/74069b3f33844338c1e230643f424fee/tumblr_mt9qfsrE841sfaksmo2_250.gif" alt="description"/> The Other Colin (also known as Lindsey's boyfriend before they broke up) is a total "popular" and also as annoying as annoying popular boys can be. For short: He's just really an annoying popular kid who thinks he rules the world and people should follow his every command. Which is totally, very, positively annoying. <img src="http://media.tumblr.com/893a360a4e0009923298d68cd571d266/tumblr_mntyjvgOTQ1ql5yr7o1_400.gif" alt="description"/> Katrina is a slut. In my opinion, anyway. I don't know if I'll believe the fact that she told Hassan that she <i>did</i> love him. But my choice to not believe overpowers my choice to believe. The End. Simply put, they're Katrina, TOC, and Lindsey's best friends who hate TOC and possibly also Katrina a little bit too. But they're good friends. At first I rated this four but decided that it's better of rated 3.5. It's still third place in my list of <i>Favorite John Green Books</i>, though.
