Honestly - I’m surprised! I did not expect this book to be as good as it is. It does a lot of things a whole lot better than the first, almost like the first was just an absurdly long prologue. For one there’s a lot more lore, a lot more depth. Just more to the world as a whole. One plot twist was an actual surprise to me, even though most other things were predictable but still it works better than in the first book. The characters really grew on me - or they didn’t as for Lusha and I love that actually. The characters are who they are and they grow and change but they stay true to themselves. I love that. (Even though I wanted to throttle most everyone at some point. Don’t you dare be mean to Kamzin.) Again I wouldn’t call this a slow burn, dunno where I read that it is, but it isn’t. Don’t go reading this duology expecting that, or much romance at all actually. I love how the story ends and I don’t. It’s a love hate relationship. A lot of things are left unresolved and there’s SO mich potential for more … but I kinda like that? It seems like the whole thing is a slice of a story instead of a whole. But anyway - if the first book wasn’t wholly your cup of tea still give this a shot. I’m glad I did.
