Rezension von Der BuchschnackIch habe mir das Buch im letzten Jahr geholt, nachdem ich die Serie gesehen und sehr genossen habe. Das Buch habe ich nun endlich von meinem SuB befreit und als Hörbuch genossen - und zwar so sehr, ich es auf YouTube als Hörgenuss des Monats Januar vorstellen werde. Historische True Crime Reportage fällt mir da als erstes ein. Historisch, weil es die Protagonistin Grace Marks wirklich gab und die Umstände, die sie ins Gefängnis brachten, tatsächlich so passiert sind. Das Spannende an diesem Buch ist, dass Margaret Atwood zwar viel hinzugesponnen hat, das Ganze jedoch völlig wertfrei vonstatten geht. Es wird den Leser*innen / Hörer*innen überlassen sich ein Urteil darüber zu bilden, was denn nun genau passiert ist. Und das finde ich total beachtlich! Interviews, Briefe, Berichte, Artikel - das alles bringt uns Grace und ihre Geschichte näher. Margaret Atwood hat es in meinen Augen geschafft, dass die Geschichte dadurch nicht fad oder trocken wirkt, sondern sogar noch an Atmosphäre gewinnt. Ich fühle mich ins 10. Jahrhundert zurückversetzt, was auch an der authentischen Sprache liegt, die Atwood hier nutzt. Vielen Dank auch an den / die Übersetzer*in - großartig gemacht! Ich habe das Buch mindestens genauso genossen wie die Serie, die die Atmosphäre tatsächlich wahnsinnig gut aufgegriffen hat. Und nach dem ganzen Buch, nach all den Artikeln, Interviews und nach Grace selbst stellt sich mir noch immer die Frage - wer ist Grace eigentlich? Kein Jahreshighlight, aber ein Highlight!
