The series is about the classic love story between the gods Hades and Persephone. Persephone is the goddess of spring, while Hades is the god of the underworld. In this story, the young goddess Persephone studies at the university in "new Athens" and lives the life of a mortal, except that she is an immortal. Hades, on the other hand, owns a nightclub in the human world where he gambles with hopeless SOUlS. The two meet on one night and their romance develops. *** please keep in mind there may be some soft spoilers reading further*** It was the first mythologically inspired fantasy book I’ve ever read. I liked the writing style, also liked that the world setting was in the "real inspired modern world". The chapters were kept relatively short, which I also liked. Also I can't complain about the use of language, even as a non-native English speaker I found it easy to understand the book. The characters were well designed, it was refreshing to have a different type of FMC. Most FMC are the same type of woman: brown hair, dark blonde, slim and petite build, mostly brown/light brown eyes or blue eyes. Persephone, on the other hand, was one of the few golden blonde FMC I got to knew when I first read the book, a bit curvier and not too short - which I liked. Usually all FMC are “petite and tiny”. In general, I wish we had more diversity in skin color, hair and body types in books, not just one typical white girl character. I want to see more ethnicity, generally speaking, not the same copy paste of the same girl. Persephone seems smart and sassy, which I liked. But can we please talk about Hades? OMG! Usually the MC in dark romance books are so toxic, but Hades is the goat! I've always thought that "green flag" men in books are pretty boring because the story is too predictable. But, oh, that was so silly of me. The tension between the two was unique would totally recommend!
