As usual Becky Chambers wrote a delightful utopia. A happy place, where I totally want to wake up and live there for the rest of my days. The novella is a lovely appendix to the first installment of the series and explores the world of Monk and Robot: how are finances on Pangea, what is family like, how do they imagine work and society? Mosscap and Dex spent time in good company, relaxing, having fun and meaningful conversation. This text (with its magnificent Cover-design) lowered my blood pressure and eased my world-weariness. Books are medicine. “Dex sunk into the milky blue of the spring, moaning without words as the rocky pool invited them in. They became as liquid as the water holding them, edge less and pliant within the geothermal heat rising up from the moons molten heart.” “He stood and held out his hand. Dex took it and felt their pulses greet each other, buzzing with the impulsive promise of something good for the soul.” “And as a disciple of Allalae (the god of small comforts), that means I think we’re allowed to use whatever we want to make ourselves as safe and comfortable as possible, provided that we don’t damage the natural world or hurt one another in the process.”
