I really liked the story. I try to limit reading time to about 20 minutes per day before I go to bed and most of the days I managed to put the book aside with the good feeling the girls and their story would patiently wait for me to return. But sometimes esp. towards the end of the book I caught myself during the day wondering what will happen next and how everything will turn out. Especially, as there were a couple of days I didn't manage to squeeze in my 20 minutes reading time. So at the end I used a rainy holiday to just curl up on the sofa and finish it. ... Now I'm a bit sad that I have to say farewell to these ladies but I'm also full of admiration on what women like them have accomplished. I will definitely recommend the book and caught myself thinking about checking if I will like the other books by Kate Quinn as much as I loved this one. For me it is a perfect combination between fact and fiction giving us a glimpse how things may have been and could have happened in the past. ... and wondering how things would be if history should repeat itself with the the developments and everything going on in the field of encryption and cyber security today.
This book is not a fast read but is worth all the time you take to read it. I simply didn’t want the book to end, I didn’t want to leave the characters. The Rose Code was such an exhilarating read. I got drawn into the world of the 1940‘s and didn’t ever want to stop reading, even though it was already 2 am and way past my bedtime. The characters were so different and yet I loved each and every one. Mabel’s story stirred me and made me cry and Beth‘s story had me almost tearing out my hair for the feeling of frustration. The Rose Code was my first book by Kate Quinn and certainly won’t have been the last. I’m thankful that Netgalley and Harper Collins habe given me the chance to read and review this fine piece of writing!
