Die Entwicklung über diesen längeren Zeitraum sehr glaubhaft, genau wie die anschaulichen Eindrücke, die ich in sein Leben bekam. Ich konnte ihn sehr gut verstehen. Die Plottwists waren sehr gut eingearbeitet und eher unauffällig, was ich aber gut fand. So waren sie glaubhafter. Nur manchmal ging es etwas schnell. Michael als Charakter mochte ich auch sehr. Ich bewundere seine Charakterstärke. Sie Werte und wie er für sie, auch in seinen wunderbaren Gedichten, einsteht finde ich toll. Den Nebencharakteren stehe ich nichts l nah, was ich aber nicht schlimm finde. Ich fabd interessant zu sehen, wer wie einer Rolle in Michaels Leben spielte. Seine Konstanten abef auch die, die er aus den Augen verlor und dann wieder traf . Das jeder sich weiterentwickelt hat. Der Schreibstil ist mega erfrischend. Sonst ist die Art der Darstellung fast, wie Gedichte, was ich sehr cool zum Lesen fand. Es werden gute Werte übermittelt und die Darstellung ist passend und spricht mich an. Sie schwarzen Seiten und die Illustrationen. Der Schreibstil konnte mich mit seiner Einzigartigkeit sehr überzeugen und ich flog nur so durch die Seiten. Das Lesen machte deswegen sehr viel Spaß. Nur das Präsens störte mich leider häufiger. Insgesamt ist »The Black Flamingo« eine tolle Geschichte über Selbstfindung und Akzeptanz , für mich gab es aber nicht so wirklich bahnbrechendes und Neues. Hervorragende ist allerdings def mal ganz andere, poetische, erfrischende Schreibstil. Und auch die Geschichte und Werte sind toll. Wer Lust auf eine Lebensgeschichte hat, die sehr kreativ gestaltet ist, sollte dieses Buch umbedingt lesen. --- ~Ayla

Ok I really do think i`ve ruined that book for me myself. And that because of several reasons. 1) I went into that with so high expectations that of course no book would live up to them 2) I was craving poetry and because it was written in verse I thought it would be something similar. It wasn´t what I wanted. But that´s my fault. I didn´t like the writing style. I felt way to childish 3) For books that address a group/community that I´m not a part of I like to read negative reviews from people that are in them. Here it´s the black community, as well as the trans and drag community. I´m not a part of either of those so before saying something, that is about them, is good I want to know if nothing in this book hurt people who are affected. And oh boy it wasn´t good. For drag I didn´t find anything bad but for the other ones. I read that some people got triggered by this book, didn´t feel represented because of all the stereotypes and some also stated that some facts giving in this book are just false and weird. So based on these reviews from people who know better than me I don´t feel in the position to praise this book because I´m not affected. I don´t have a clue. And as soon as several people say that they felt disgusted and hurt by this book it´s a no for me. I´m sorry. Maybe if I hadn´t looked into this in more depth it wouldn´t have bothered me or at least it wouldn´t have stood out like that to me but like that no. Plus there is one scene about a possible rape which is seen as no big deal and is never mentioned again. Just two sites of it and that´s it. No coping whatsoever. Given all these things that book was a disappointment even though i really wanted to love it.

4,5 Sterne Wow! So eine tolles Buch über Identität, Freundschaft, Toleranz und so vieles mehr... Den College Abschnitt hätte man an der ein oder anderen Stelle etwas kürzen können, deshalb habe ich einen halben Stern abgezogen. Aber es lohnt sich wirklich sehr, das Buch zu lesen! :)
